You know, living in Georgia, I thought I knew what hot was. I thought I had a firm grasp on the concept of humidity. Of course, there was also a time when I thought Backstreet Boys made quality music. So, I guess we all make mistakes.
There is nothing like summer in Texas and I don’t mean that in a good way. It’s not so much the heat that gets you, its the humidity. You’re never dry here. We just all walk around in hot, steamy people soup. It makes scheduling sessions a slight challenge because no girl wants to get all sweaty and sticky and then have another warm blooded human being wrap their arms around them. But that doesn’t mean we can just stay indoors for 3 months-unless that’s a thing I don’t know about. (Um, is that a thing? Can we make that a thing?)
I didn’t need to worry, because Amanda was a trooper. She and her sweet fiance, Stone, are having a destination wedding on Amelia Island next summer but they wanted their engagement photos taken in Houston, since they’re from Texas. So, we headed down to Elenor Tinsley Park at golden hour! I enjoyed spending time with, cute-as-a-button, Amanda. Normally, it takes my couples a few minutes to get the hang of posing, particularly the guys, because they have to learn “the Nuzzle”. But Amanda and Stone just picked it right up. Several of the images in this blog post were actually their test shots!
Prior to our session, I had them write their list of 5 things. I often do this with couples who tell me that they aren’t the best at posing or don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. Before our session, I’ll have them write a list of 5 things. It could be 5 things they love about the other person, 5 favorite moments together, or 5 things they are looking forward to the most after the wedding. I have them share it during the session. I put on a telephoto lens and step farther back so I don’t intrude on their private words. But this usually gets some great candid moments and authentic reactions.
I know that Amanda and Stone are going to have a beautiful wedding on sunny Amelia Island!
