Bond. Lawrence Bond.
That’s all Steven and I could think on Thao and Lawrence’s wedding day! Their details were classic and sophisticated, with a touch of glam and glitz. Lawrence wore a fabulous blue tux and Thao stunned in a tulle ballgown with a beaded bodice. But the car, a 1960 MG Mga, was the icing on the cake!
We had so much fun tossing the layers of Thao’s tulle dress as we photographed the bride getting ready in their suite at Hotel Zaza. I’m in love with those images! She looks like a princess. Fun fact: Steven bruised his arm on a marble end table when he threw the layers up and dove behind the couch to hide from the camera. The man was committed! Anything for the shot, though.
Thao really wanted their couple’s pictures to be in a natural, wooded, or grassy area (so did I!), but since we were in west Houston, there wasn’t much of that nearby. It’s just buildings, parking lots, and harsh, mid-day sun, and we didn’t have time to drive very far. But as we walked outside for their bubble exit following the ceremony, I noticed that there was a water pipe system behind the church, with a few trees on the other side of the shallow ditch. I could work with this! Using a few camera angle tricks, and one small patch of shade from a nearby tree, I feel like we made some magic happen in the middle of a paved paradise. And we still had great weather and plenty of time to get a few sunset shots with that amazing car!
Their reception was tons of fun. They played a scavenger hunt, the shoe game, and the I Love You Game, where 5 contestants had to say “I love you” and whoever could hold the last syllable for the longest won a prize. I think the winner was like 40 seconds. He was blue in the face, but the game got a lot of laughs. One of the most surprising moments was the groom’s dance with his mother. It started slow and sweet just as you’d expect, then they broke out into an array of iconic pop dances like the Gangnum Style, a little bit of Nsync, and Tonto. I did not see that coming!
Congratulations Thao and Lawrence! Steven and I are SO happy for you!!!
