Virginia + Trevor’s Wedding

February 17, 2019 by Amy Maddox Photography Leave a Comment

One of the things I love most about this couple is their affinity for love and laughter. Virginia has a smile and laugh that is warm, uninhibited, and infectious and Trevor knows just how to bring it out of her. They obviously have many inside jokes and innuendos that only they understand, because she never stops giggling. It’s really sweet.

Normally when I meet with a bride and groom, I usually connect mostly with the bride, and the groom is just along for the ride. But that wasn’t the case with Trevor and Virginia. During our initial meeting at a local cafe (lol, it was just a Starbucks, we aren’t THAT hipster) he was engaged, had great questions, and seemed to really want to be a part of his wedding day. He was invested in their relationship and wanted to be a part of this amazing experience WITH her. It had me so excited to work with them!

Trevor is so easy to talk to and be around. He’s the kind of person I could sit with and just be quiet, and it wouldn’t feel like awkward silence. I know that might sound weird, for some people. But for me, that’s an anomaly (maybe it’s because he’s a fellow photographer and our brains are on the same wavelength). It could just be that he has a very calming presence and I like being around that. Virginia makes me feel happy and inspired, because SHE is happy and inspired. (In fact, she’s an opera singer! though I haven’t yet had the pleasure of hearing her sing).

But I love that we all love weird things together- like Escape the Room Games. In fact, Steven and I hope to play the Hunt A Serial Killer with them, because they are the only people we’ve found in Houston who don’t think that’s weird. (It’s totally not weird).

They are the farthest thing from “fussy” or “high maintenance” you could be. Their wedding wasn’t filled with glitz and glam, jewels and pizzazz, but rather their mutual love of books, travel, and family and friends. We took most of their photos in a modest garden near their church and I love what we created. The girl’s bouquets were made from the couple’s favorite books and the bride’s rings were vintage.

***Side note: 90% of our couples opt to do a first look and Virginia and Trevor’s wedding day is a great example of how this little addition can give us an opportunity for once in a lifetime moments and photographs that we otherwise would never be able to get. Trevor’s reaction was perfect and, unlike a traditional wedding day that doesn’t involve a first look, he got to hold his bride and tell her how amazing she looked IN THE MOMENT, while the words were still in his head and the overwhelming emotions still in his heart. There weren’t 22 pairs of eyes on him (they hardly noticed me and Steven until minutes later) and we got to go right into portrait time. The groom wasn’t stressed, the coordinator wasn’t rushing us, the groomsmen weren’t begging to go to the bar, the DJ wasn’t asking for a cue. It was easy and breezy. Immediately following the ceremony we spent maybe ten minutes doing family pictures and an additional 5 minutes taking a few extra couples pictures in a different location.

All of the photos you see are of the first look and directly after. This is how much of a difference a First Look can make. To all of our couples who are still on the fence, we have a few of our past brides who would love to tell you about their experience and why they are so glad they did them. It really makes an incredible difference on your wedding day!

We always end every post with a love quote, so it seems fitting to use the quote they wrote on their reception menu board.

“You know you have found love when you can’t find your way back”. – Robert Brault
