Do you know what one of my favorite things is? Photographing a beautiful family, with great light, exploring a gorgeous location, and, on top of THAT, getting to experience all of that with my family! Seriously, I’m LOVING these photos from our session at Enchanted Rock State Park SO much that I can’t narrow them down to a suitable amount to share on our blog! So prepare to be bombarded, people. You’re gonna be scrolling a LOT.
I met Adriann, a fellow photographer and the owner of Adriann Marisa Photography, through a national Facebook network for photographers who are students of the Katelyn James education courses, which is professional development for photographers with a light and airy style, as well as comprehensive posing and editing training. KJ’s education helped me to learn how to create the kind of images I see in my head.

Adriann never had maternity pictures taken when she was preggers (a mistake I also personally regret) so she wanted to make up for it by booking us for a family session with her husband and ADORABLE son. Seriously, look at those curls. In addition to looking like a cherub in suspenders, he was super cooperative, which is like a UNICORN in the realm of family photography, especially with younger kids. Adriann knows.
Honesty time. I sometimes get a little nervous when I shoot other photographers, especially ones as talented as Adriann. We all have such different styles, different methods of posing and directing, our own weird ideas and creative inspiration, and our own hangups. So I was lucky that both she and Gerald were so easy to work with, easy to talk to, and up for anything (like climbing up a mountain while wearing a dress for that epic wide shot).
It was a bonus to be able to talk shop with Adriann. As naturally talented as Steven is as a photographer, and as much as I know he loves it, sometimes when I talk about new techniques or a new course or seminar, I kinda see his eyes glaze over and I know, in his mind, he’s thinking of something NASA-related. Or of my boobs. Boys are boys, after all.

Adriann and Gerald don’t live in Texas, they’re based in Oklahoma, but they traveled to meet us at one of my favorite places in the United States- Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg, Texas, about a 5 hour drive from our home in Houston. It was hot as bananas, but luckily the air is a little dryer than it is in Houston, so it didn’t feel like the nine million and four degrees that it actually was, and the drive is beautiful, no matter what the season.
Steven and our two youngest kiddos tagged along for the fun. It was Liam and Sebastian’s first time at Enchanted Rock and there was so much for them to see (and poke at). Steven helped get a few extra shots and angles of the family before racing the boys up to the top of the mountain. Sebastian, unfortunately, was a little sick that day, but he managed to boot and rally (which I absolutely rewarded him for with a late-night stop to Dairy Queen).
Adrian and Gerald have such a sweet son and a beautiful connection to one another that I can feel when I look at them. I’m so thankful they traveled all this way to hang out with us for an evening. And I’m still gushing over these photos!
